Otay Mesa is on the mend as the City of San Diego launches its latest road repair crusade, promising smoother travels on surfaces marred by the passage of time and tires. As per the City of San Diego, the city's slurry seal program kicked off last Saturday, with Otay Mesa's streets being the beneficiary of this round of refurbishment.
Slurry seal, an economical way to prevent the streets from further degeneration, is a concoction applied to the road, and it may just save taxpayers money down the line by forgoing the more expensive asphalt overlay. The process, which happens in phases, typically spans several days or weeks, stretching out the inconvenience but, hopefully, minimizing the hit on municipal coffers. As detailed by the City of San Diego, a slurry seal isn't just about laying down new road material; it's a holistic approach that often aligns with other initiatives aimed at bolstering safety and enhancing mobility for everyone on the road.
Touching numerous roads within the community, the Slurry Seal Project 2522 will, weather permitting, continue its work throughout February. Stretches like Marconi Drive and La Media Road to the lesser-traveled Manya Circle and Isla De La Gaita are all set to see improvements. The intent is to apply this mixture, consisting primarily of asphalt emulsion, sand, and even rock, to create a fortified surface that should stand the test of time.
