In a concerted effort to crack down on retail crime, the Oxnard Police Department, alongside Ventura County's Organized Retail Theft Task Force and other local enforcement agencies, orchestrated an anti-theft "Blitz" operation at the shopping center The Collection at Riverpark. This sting operation unfolded on February 21 at two well-known storefronts, Target and Ulta Beauty, managing to snag several individuals dabbling in shoplifting.
According to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department, this joint initiative culminated in nine arrests. Amongst the arrested were six adults and three juveniles, with charges ranging from misdemeanors to an outstanding warrant. Each suspect hailed from either Oxnard itself or the surrounding Ventura County area, emphasizing a local scope in the crimes addressed.
The collaboration was noteworthy for its integration of Target and Ulta Beauty's loss prevention teams, who played a pivotal role in identifying and apprehending the suspects. The police operation underscores a rising concern over retail theft in the area, which has seen businesses continually targeted by organized groups aiming to exploit the bustling commerce of Oxnard's shopping districts.
Remaining steadfast in their commitment, the Oxnard Police Department's Property Crimes Unit (PCU) vows to sustain such partnerships to curtail future thefts. Sergeant John McBride, acting as a spokesperson for the department, indicated that more operations are slated to occur citywide. Those privy to information that could assist in these matters are encouraged to come forward, with assurances of anonymity for those preferring discretion. Tips about suspicious activity can also be lodged through Ventura County Crime Stoppers or directly via the Oxnard Police Department's website.
