A late-night crash on a Detroit freeway left one passenger injured, and authorities are searching for the driver who fled the scene. The Michigan State Police confirmed the single-car accident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. yesterday on the eastbound I-96 ramp to Davison, according to the Detroit Free Press.

When troopers arrived, they found an empty driver's seat and an unconscious passenger with a broken arm. The door was open, suggesting the driver had quickly left the scene. The 41-year-old passenger had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life by Detroit Fire Department rescuers and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver was speeding, causing the car to veer off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and travel across all lanes before crashing into another barrier and stopping near a traffic light. "Another crash caused by the driver going too fast and losing control," said F/Lt Mike Shaw in a Michigan State Police 2nd district X post. Shaw also pointed out that the driver abandoned the injured passenger after the crash.

Authorities are continuing to search for the driver and are asking for the public's help. Anyone with information can contact officials at 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
