The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming asphalt milling and paving work on Piʻilani Highway (Route 31), set to begin next week. The project will impact traffic flow, with potential delays for commuters. Starting Monday, travel lanes between Kilohana Drive and Wailea ʻIke Drive will be reconfigured to maintain one open lane in each direction. HDOT advises motorists to plan for extra travel time and stay updated on traffic conditions as the work progresses.
Construction is scheduled to take place daily from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is expected to continue through Friday, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to anticipate slow movement through work zones and be prepared for stop-and-go traffic conditions during these hours.
HDOT is also closing the rightmost lane on Piʻilani Highway northbound at the intersection with Alanui Ke Aliʻi Drive on Friday for additional paving work. During this closure, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., one northbound lane will remain open to traffic. With various lane closures and shifts, HDOT requests that commuters "please obey all traffic controls and drive carefully around the workers."
