
Tragedy struck the 110 Freeway downtown this past Saturday morning in a fatal collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that at approximately 6:34 A.M., a 40-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed. Despite the emergency services' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. LAFD ALERT has provided initial details about the incident, which involved three individuals.
The driver of the vehicle, a 47-year-old male, was transported to the hospital in fair condition. In the confusion that often accompanies the immediate aftermath of such incidents, there was also a 23-year-old male who declined any medical treatment from LAFD personnel and was subsequently released at the scene. According to the statement released by the LAFD, all inquiries about the collision should be directed to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) under Log#0447, who will be handling the investigation into the cause of the incident, and the Los Angeles Office of the Medical Examiner, who is responsible for the identification of the deceased.
LAFD units including Engine 10, Engine 11, and Rescue Ambulance 11 were quickly dispatched to the scene in the Central Bureau area, under the command of Battalion 1, within Council District 1. The emergency crew's quick response was an effort to administer aid and secure the safety of those involved and other commuters during the early morning traffic. The specific circumstances leading up to the collision have not yet been disclosed by investigative authorities.
