An Uber driver in Philadelphia endured a harrowing ordeal early Thursday when two supposed passengers shot him and drove away with his car. According to 6abc, the 58-year-old driver was operating his vehicle in the city's Spring Garden section when he was assaulted around 2:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Fairmount Avenue. Picked up by the driver, the two men immediately revealed a handgun and declared a robbery before shooting him in the chest and arm.
Despite suffering gunshot wounds, the driver managed to walk two blocks after the violent episode. Police discovered him able to talk and clutching his key fob, which was subsequently useless as the thieves fled south on 10th St. from Fairmount in his black 2024 Chevy Malibu with Florida tag KY3-99E. NBC Philadelphia reported that Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small expressed relief that the driver's condition was stable, given the perilous nature of his wounds.
The investigation for the culprits intensified as one of the suspects, a 17-year-old, was later detained in Jersey City, as per FOX 29 News. Authorities recovered both the stolen vehicle and a firearm. However, the search continues for the second suspect involved in this crime.
