Presently leading Parma City Schools, Dr. Smialek's initiatives in the district since 2018 have notably led to the 2024 Momentum Award, recognizing its status as one of the fastest-improving school districts in Ohio. Prior to his position in Parma, he served as Superintendent of Euclid City Schools, where he has been instrumental in strategic planning and fiscal management, securing support for academic initiatives and major building projects. Through posts such as assistant superintendent, principal, and social studies teacher, Smialek has widely contributed to curriculum development, school operations, and stakeholder engagement.

With a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Kent State University, Smialek extensively has invested in academic excellence and student-centric leadership, building a resume decorated with accolades like the Ohio PTA Achievement Award.

As Dr. Smialek prepares to take his position, Interim Superintendent Dr. Scott J. Hunt will continue to provide leadership and ensure a seamless transition. Pickerington's residents and the school community will have the opportunity to welcome Dr. Smialek when he is expected to be formally introduced at the next Board meeting, scheduled for tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. at the Pickerington Local School District Offices at 90 North East Street.
