A pilot was uninjured after a small plane crash in the Pearland area last night. The aircraft came to rest upside down in dense woodland near the Pearland Regional Airport, and while the cause of the crash is still undetermined, federal aviation officials have begun an investigation into the incident, as first reported by Click2Houston.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Pearland Police Department responded to the site situated at Friendswood Hastings & Dixie Farm, a short distance from the airport’s runway the pilot was found unharmed at the side of the road, according to authorities, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will now take the lead on the crash investigation.
Further details from another report by KHOU indicate that the crash happened around 10:45 p.m. between Dixie Farm Road and Madison Ann Drive, just off County Road 127. Officials pointed out that the pilot was the only occupant onboard the plane and he managed to extricate himself from the wreckage.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the plane's origin and the pilot's route, with the remote location and nighttime conditions delaying immediate findings, aside from the overturned plane and the pilot, who was unharmed. The FAA is expected to release more information as their investigation continues.
