A police pursuit of a burglary suspect in the Hancock Park area escalated into gunfire and a collision on Wednesday night, according to Los Angeles authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire gang enforcement officers initiated the chase around 8:45 p.m., which led to shots being fired when the suspect made a U-turn towards the officers after reaching a dead-end on Oakwood Avenue near North June Street, as reported by KTLA.
Attempts to apprehend the suspect continued as the pursuit vehicle eventually collided with another car at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Wilton Place. "The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were described as minor," stated Los Angeles Police Department Detective Meghan Aguilar in a statement obtained by KTLA. The chase, which included an officer-involved shooting, lasted about five minutes before culminating in the crash, as per information provided by the Los Angeles Police Department to FOX 11.
Following the collision, one suspect was apprehended while, at least, one other person was reported to have fled the scene. The condition of a woman involved in the crash, who was transported to the hospital, remains unknown, according to CBS Los Angeles. The police chase involved two alleged burglary suspects, with one of them allegedly firing shots at police near the Wilshire Country Club, though no one was struck by the gunfire.
No descriptions of the suspects were released, and it remains unclear how many individuals were inside the red SUV involved in the crash. The area where the chase concluded was overflown by SkyCal, capturing footage of significant damage to the vehicle at the intersection. As of Thursday morning, one suspect was in police custody while at least one other remains outstanding.
