A police shooting in south Phoenix resulted in a suspect being fatally shot after a sequence of events that began with a traffic stop in the early hours of Wednesday. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident started near 15th and Southern Avenues when officers attempted to stop a speeding pickup truck at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday.

The driver, who is yet to be identified, refused to cooperate with the police and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood, eventually taking refuge in a recycle bin, this resulted in a standoff as police engaged in negotiations, even deploying less-than-lethal methods to resolve the situation. "During negotiations, the man did not comply with officers’ commands and less lethal pepper balls along with a 40 mm less-lethal launcher was used," the Phoenix Police Department explained, as stated by FOX 10 Phoenix. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and fired it, leading to the police responding with lethal force.

As noted by AZFamily, an additional detail emerged, revealing that the suspect had abandoned the truck without setting it to park, potentially endangering others when the vehicle continued to roll towards a house. However, quick action from an officer prevented any property damage.

After the deployment of K-9 units and securing a perimeter, police were tipped off regarding the suspect's location that's when the bin negotiations and subsequent shooting took place remarkably, no officers were injured during the encounter. "An investigation is underway to find out full details of the officer-involved shooting, as per AZFamily."
