A standoff in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood culminated in the arrest of a man after he was reportedly threatening people with a machete. According to OregonLive, the incident ended last night after a four-hour negotiation.
Police say the suspect, 44-year-old Sony Moan of Portland, now faces multiple charges including unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. KPTV reported that Portland Police Bureau (PPB) contained the suspect at around 6:15 p.m., which was followed by multiple tactical crews responding to quickly subdue the situation. Conversations were maintained with Moan in a bid to peacefully resolve the crisis without further confrontation.
During the course of the event, residents in the vicinity were placed on high alert. An alert system implemented by PPB advised locals to remain indoors with their windows and doors securely locked, as noted by KPTV.
Moan is also facing charges of second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree escape, interfering with a peace officer, and criminal mischief.
