An apartment building at 2200 S. Gessner Rd., Houston, TX 77066 caught fire last Sunday, around 2:55 p.m. According to the Houston Fire Department, firefighters responded quickly and contained the blaze within 45 minutes, preventing further damage.
A swift response helped save an estimated $16,000,000 in property value, though damages amounted to approximately $350,000. The Houston Fire Department quickly brought the fire under control before it could spread further. Firefighters located the fire on the second floor and efficiently worked to contain it. A cat was found dead among the debris following the containment.
A fire broke out, and 53 personnel from Stations 69, 15, 28, 83, 10, 51, 60, 75, 57, Rescue 10, and Rehab 42 responded to the scene. The family had already evacuated the apartment before HFD's arrival. Several cats were found alive in a nearby unit, and crews rescued them, giving one cat oxygen. The American Red Cross assisted displaced residents. HFD Arson investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by a lighter, as reported by the Houston Fire Department.
