Grand Rapids local businesses faced a scare when a fire erupted at Jet's Pizza on Fuller Avenue NE yesterday morning. According to WOOD TV, the Grand Rapids Fire Department arrived around 10:15 a.m. after heavy smoke was seen coming from the building. The firefighters' quick action extinguished the flames, preventing any spread to the four other businesses in the strip mall, including Biggby Coffee, a bank, and Jude's Barber Shop adjacent to the pizza store.
The incident left no injuries, however, the potential cause of the fire was suspected to be a water heater, as reported by WZZM 13. Employees next door at the barber shop witnessed the event unfold. "We started seeing the brown-ish, red-ish smoke coming from under our walls," said Brittany Beeks, a manager at Jude's. Her colleague, Mari Cervantes, emphasized the swiftness of the smoke's spread and the promptness of the fire department's response, "They all came within a minute. They were fast," Beeks added.
The speedy intervention of the fire crew ensured that the damage was contained and that no harm came to the patrons or workers. The fire was put out in just 10 minutes, though firefighters remained on-site until just before 11 a.m., dealing with hotspots and checking the integrity of the structure, as FOX 17 detailed. The entire situation filled the busy Grand Rapids intersection with smoke, disrupting the usual flow of the day.
