Residents of Rancho Cordova will see improvements to their streets as the city initiates a series of public works projects focused on enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing vehicle speeds. According to a recent update by the City of Rancho Cordova, the Cordova Meadows and Cordova Gardens neighborhoods are getting some much-needed improvements, largely funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
The initiative includes the installation of 44 solar-powered streetlights across several streets, with a completion date set for Summer 2025. Alongside the streetlights, traffic calming strategies are set to rapidly transform the roads into greener and safer spaces. Expect to see bulb-outs, speed lumps, bike lanes, fresh striping, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons—changes intended to slow down traffic and to provide safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
The Chase Drive and American River Parkway Connection project is enhancing connectivity. The first phase, now complete, introduced a multiuse path, and the second phase will build upon this infrastructure. The upcoming work will include ADA-compliant curb ramps and high-visibility crosswalks to improve travel between Coloma Road and the American River Parkway.
In the Stone Creek neighborhood, a traffic calming project on Baroque Drive is currently in the design phase. "This project aims to reduce speeds and enhance safety along the corridor for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians," states the city's announcement. The safety improvements, which include a mini roundabout, bike lane improvements, and enhanced crosswalks, are expected to begin construction in spring this year and to be ready by the summer.
Rancho Cordova encourages residents to sign up for their e-newsletter to stay updated on the progress of these projects and other municipal news. Information and updates are available through the city's official channels.
