Remains discovered on the South Side Slopes have been conclusively identified, ending a mystery that has haunted the Pittsburgh community. WPXI reported that the skeletal remains found on Burham Street are those of Michael Graham, who was reported missing since October 4. Graham was 43 at the time he vanished from Eccles Street.
It was near 3 p.m. on a quiet Sunday when the stirrings of emergency responders punctuated the day. They were quick to carefully investigate the scene, located on the 2400 block of Burham Street, where they encountered the remains in "an advanced state of decomposition," according to a spokesperson for the Pittsburgh police. These efforts would eventually unravel to confirm what many feared but hoped to never manifest: the disappearance of Graham had come to the most somber of conclusions. CBS News Pittsburgh noted the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's assessment.
Police and medical examiners have confirmed the identity of the remains, turning this from a missing person case into a deeper investigation. Forensic experts are still determining how Graham died.
