
A tragic loss occurred in Renton when a 35-year-old man was fatally shot after he confronted a suspect who was in the act of stealing his car. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Renton police. As reported by KING 5 News, the confrontation happened on the 1100 block of South 27th Place just before 3:30 a.m.
The car owner, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly grabbed onto the driver’s side window and was dragged as the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle. Ultimately, the suspect shot the man, leaving him to die at the scene. According to a separate account by The Seattle Times, investigators found that at least five cars were prowled that night in a series of thefts the suspects, considering at least two involved were armed and dangerous.
As of now, the suspects in connection with the Renton car theft and shooting remain at large. Renton police are searching and have asked the public to come forward with any information that might lead to an arrest. To piece together the suspects’ escape route, detectives are requesting video footage from residents in the area. KOMO News detailed the specific streets along which the suspects are thought to have fled and are looking to collect video evidence from the timeframe of 3:15-7:30 am on Saturday, February 1.
Anyone with relevant video footage or information is urged by law enforcement to come forward. The broad daylight with the suspects being considered armed and dangerous, it is critical that the public remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
