A retired Pittsburgh police officer, Virginia Beck, 63, is facing multiple charges, including attempted homicide after she allegedly shot her 16-year-old grandson. The incident, which occurred in the Stanton Heights neighborhood, emerged following an argument between the two, as reported by WPXI. Beck, who served the Pittsburgh Police Department before retirement, reportedly left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Authorities became involved early Tuesday when the boy was left at a hospital with a leg wound by his grandmother. Beck left the hospital before police reached, with the teenager in stable condition after arriving around 1:30 a.m. According to the investigation led by the police, the unfortunate shooting unfolded during a domestic dispute.
In the wake of the incident, Beck was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, as confirmed by a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson speaking with CBS News Pittsburgh. The seriousness of the allegations against Beck is underscored by the nature of the charges: criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of the child.
No granted, Beck's bail was denied, and she remains incarcerated as she awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for later in the month.
