Roseville Police Department Embraces Transparency, Hosting Community Meeting on Military Equipment UseSource: Facebook/Roseville Police Department

The Roseville Police Department has announced new requirements set by Assembly Bill 481 to promote transparency and accountability in law enforcement. In a statement on the Roseville Police Department Facebook page, the department explained that the bill mandates official approval before acquiring, funding, or deploying "military equipment," which includes items such as drones, long rifles, unmanned vehicles, armored assets, tactical response tools, and certain projectile launchers.

The bill requires the department to get approval from the City Council before obtaining any such equipment. Additionally, it mandates annual reports that disclose the use of the equipment, internal audits, violations, and any planned acquisitions for the following year.

AB 481 also emphasizes public involvement by requiring at least one community meeting to discuss the regulations. The Roseville Police Department will host a meeting on Tuesday next week from 5pm to 6pm at the Mark White Community Room, allowing residents to engage with the department about these issues.
