A Round Rock woman is seeking answers after her rented storage unit was found empty of her late father’s cherished possessions. "Anybody who knows Calvin Webb, they know he was the true cowboy," said the distressed daughter, Webb, while recalling her father's legacy as a cowboy outside of Houston. She inherited a sentimental collection of his boots, hats, and jackets after he passed away. "I'm still not ready to let go of my father," Webb told FOX 7 Austin.
Following her father's death, Webb secured a storage unit at the Public Storage located off A.W. Grimes in Round Rock. Financial strains, however, led to delays in payment. Public Storage warned of a potential auction, which pushed Webb and her family to settle the arrears. "They threatened us saying it was going to go to auction so, you know, my sister scraped together the money, and my kids paid double,” Webb recounted. Despite the struggle to keep her unit, Webb was under the impression that her payments were made within the grace period provided by the facility.
It was not until January 25, when Webb accessed her storage unit again, only to discover it barren. "When I opened the storage, I just screamed," Webb described in an interview. Six days after the harrowing discovery, she filed a report with the Round Rock police. The late payment in question occurred back in March 2024, which led to Public Storage changing the unit’s lock, but according to Webb, she received a code for the new lock after she paid the outstanding balance.
Webb’s visit in January, nearly a year later, leaves a significant gap in time for investigators to sift through surveillance footage, potentially complicating the search for answers. Webb, still reeling from the loss, clings to the remnants of her father’s life. "His coats, his shoes, like what I got on of his now, it's like he's holding me, my daddy is holding me, and they took that from me, and I want answers," she expressed. A series of unproductive conversations with Public Storage’s corporate representatives have left Webb with more questions than answers, as well as conflicting information about access to her unit.
Public Storage employees inside the Round Rock facility were not authorized to speak on the matter. Meanwhile, Yahoo News reports that as of February 20, the media outlet was awaiting a response from both the corporate office and the facility manager's office after reaching out for comment. The storage company has yet to provide an official statement on the situation.
