Yesterday, on a rainy night, Sacramento’s fire department responded to a water rescue along Steelhead and Arcade creeks. KCRA reported that initial calls indicated three people were in danger, but first responders found that nine people needed help. The crews arrived around 10 p.m. near Natoma Street and Wisconsin Avenue, where they discovered the nine individuals trapped by rising waters.
The heavy rainfall, which totaled about 1.8 inches by early yesterday evening, had caused the creeks to overflow, trapping those caught in the flood. Meteorologist Heather Waldman explained the storm system had been affecting the Sacramento Valley for over a day, contributing to the dangerous situation.
Sacramento Fire officials confirmed to abc10 that seven of the nine people were safely rescued. This area had been the site of a similar rescue last November, where a man and his dog were also rescued from rising waters, highlighting a recurring challenge.
