In Salem, Massachusetts, an alleged scheme involving contractor fraud has recently come to a head with the arrest of two men. The Salem MA Police, through a statement on social media, announced the apprehension of 38-year-old Billy O'Brien of Wellesley and 46-year-old Thomas Maughan of Waltham. According to the police, these individuals are believed to be part of a larger transnational organization notorious for deceptive home improvement operations.
The scam typically involved the suspects going door-to-door, offering home renovation services in exchange for upfront payments. After receiving the money and commencing some degree of demolition, the promise of completion vanished just as swiftly as it had been made. The two were taken into custody on Monday, following collaborative efforts by the Patrol Division and the detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
O'Brien and Maughan purportedly represented companies named "Everbuild Masonry and Waterproofing" and "Base Pro Construction." Salem Police are urging the public—especially individuals who have interacted with O'Brien or Maughan—to come forward with information. The department has provided a contact number for reports at (978) 744-1212, with additional details available on their Facebook post.
