The City of Salem is revving up for its 2025 construction season, inviting local contractors to throw their hats into the ring for a variety of infrastructure projects. With projects funded through the 2022 Salem Community Safety and Livability Bond and other sources, the city is looking to improve its streets, bridges, pedestrian crossings, and much more. Contractors eager to grab a piece of the pie can bid on these projects, with a special call for subcontractors for the Civic Center seismic upgrade.
According to details shared on the city's news release, bidders can stay up-to-date on open bids and awards via OregonBuys. Running the numbers, about $20.6 million has already been awarded from the hefty $300 million Safety and Livability Bond that voters gave the green light back in 2022. Notably, $14.5 million of that budget, 70 percent, is landing in the local contractors' pockets.
This month alone offers bids on a sanitary sewer project at 17th and Silverton Road and bridge strengthening at various Creeks and Streets. Come March, the city widens its gaze, bidding out traffic signals, athletic courts, park playground structures, and waterline replacements. April shall see downtown streetscape retouches and pedestrian improvements lining up in the bidding queue, alongside enhancements to Geer Park's shelter, sports fields, dog park, and turf.
Looking ahead to May, Salem continues its infrastructural facelift with pavement rehabilitation, ADA ramps, pedestrian crossings, and wastewater station repairs, among other upgrades. Bids for these will soon open up for combatants to lay claim.
