In Bexar County today, Veronica Elizabeth Polley appeared in court responding to charges after her pit bull was involved in an attack that left a man with serious injuries. According to FOX San Antonio, the hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. at the Bexar County Courthouse, will consider the future of the dog, which, on January 28, inflicted severe damage on a 43-year-old man during a violent incident on the Far Northwest Side.
The man and his wife were out walking their dog when the pit bull launched its attack, initially targeting their pet. As the owner intervened to protect his dog, the assailant turned on him and dragged him to the ground, leaving him with extensive facial injuries. Neighbors have attested to the dog's history of aggression, and surveillance footage has verified the details of the incident where the attacked man sustained injuries to his lips, chin, and cheek.
While today's court session is a pivotal moment for all involved, the community has previously raised concerns about this particular animal. As reported by News 4 San Antonio, another local had reported an injury to their small dog at the jaws of the same gray and white pit bull from Polley's residence back in 2023.
The Sheriff's office, after a detailed assessment of the situation, has helped to bring this case before the court, where the consequences for both the owner, and her dog will be meticulously weighed.
