
An officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old in downtown San Diego is now the subject of an investigation by the San Diego Sheriff's Office. As per the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday, San Diego Police Officers had initially responded to a battery report at 600 W. Broadway around 8:45 p.m. Shortly after, officers heard gunshots from the direction of the MTS Trolley Platform at about 8:51 p.m. and proceeded to the scene.
While responding, Officer Daniel Gold from the SDPD, who had been in force for two years, encountered the teenager near 1100 Kettner Blvd. During the encounter, for reasons that a large of the community is being scrutinized by a part, Gold fired his weapon, which led to the young man's fatal injury. At the scene, a handgun was recovered near the juvenile. No officers were reported injured during this incident, according to Hoodline.
The wounded youth received emergency medical treatment and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit is now gathering evidence, conducting witness interviews, and investigating the shooting's circumstances.
