A Sandusky man's medical emergency led to a dramatic sequence of events culminating in his car crashing through the front of an Erie County PNC Bank this past Thursday, local authorities report. According to Cleveland19, the 32-year-old driver, identified as Zachary Dupont by Cleveland.com, was driving on Strub Road in Perkins Township when he failed to manage a curve near the US 250 intersection, subsequently veering off the road.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol told Cleveland.com that Dupont's vehicle first struck a junction box that controlled traffic lights at the intersection, and then, having re-entered the roadway, the car hurtled across six lanes of traffic and jumped the curb, leading into the parking lot, it did not stop there. Still, it continued until impacting the financial institution's façade. There were no indications of drugs or alcohol influencing the incident, as expressed by the Highway Patrol in statements released to the press.
Perkins Township Firefighters were called to extricate Dupont from the wreckage, after which he was promptly transported to Firelands Medical Center for treatment.
