A Santa Ana man has been handed an extensive prison sentence, totaling 293 years to life, after being found guilty of the sexual abuse of seven boys, Orange County officials announced. Alex Mauricio Padilla Beltran, 58, systematically preyed on children, some as young as six, who were sons of his family friends. Reports from the Orange County District Attorney's Office confirm that Beltran was convicted on numerous counts that include lewd and lascivious acts with minors and oral copulation of a child.
Known to offer his victims money and ice cream in exchange for their silence, Beltran abused boys ranging from six to 13 years old between the years 2003 and 2017. Groping and kissing a 12-year-old after giving him $10, the boy reported the incident when his mother observed him behaving unusually. Beltran had previously pled guilty to related charges in Las Vegas in 2009, involving two brothers, and was then sentenced to probation, as detailed by the Orange County District Attorney.
One chilling account details how Beltran locked a six-year-old boy in a bedroom and held down him while committing the act of oral copulation. The revelation of these offenses underscores a grim reality where predators often operate within the trust circles of family and friends. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer, captured by the gravity of the situation, commented, "Far too often, it's not just the monsters hiding under the bed that we have to worry about," according to the official press release by the District Attorney's Office. "It's the monsters hiding in plain sight at family birthday parties and around our kitchen tables, waiting for the perfect moment to prey on an innocent child for their sadistic sexual gratification."
The prosecution, led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Tara Meath of the Sexual Assault Unit, argued the case that resulted in Beltran's life sentence.
