The search for Westminster Schools coach Gary Jones, missing since last month after a boating accident on Lake Oconee, continues. Students have shown their gratitude to the search teams through handwritten notes, as reported by WSBTV. Jones disappeared on his 50th birthday while boating with his fiancée, Joselyn Wilson, a Spelman College instructor. Wilson's body was found the next day.
Search efforts, involving the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and local volunteers, have been acknowledged by Westminster students. One note, shared with WSBTV, read, Thank you so much for spending your whole week and weekend looking for our beloved Coach Jones! Everybody at Westminster appreciates your sacrifice. We deeply thank you for your tireless efforts."
The Georgia DNR has continued to post updates on Facebook, showing their commitment to the search. Photos posted by the DNR reveal the scale of the operation. Reports from FOX 5 Atlanta mention that Jones' personal items were found on the abandoned boat, and his shoes were discovered in the water.
Jones' planned wedding to Wilson in March adds to the tragedy. Meanwhile, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills has addressed rumors, confirming that he believes Jones' body is still in Lake Oconee, despite the challenging topography of the lake, which includes tree limbs and underwater obstacles.
