In honor of National Engineers Week, we're spotlighting the team at Seattle City Light, which is pivotal in powering our homes and businesses. With more than 240 engineers employed by the public utility, their contribution keeps the lights on and advances our infrastructure toward a more secure and technologically adept future.
Seattle City Light engineers are engaged in continuous system improvement and maintenance. One significant project highlighted by the utility involves upgrades performed at the East Pine Substation, where an aged transformer was replaced with a 125-ton upgrade. This new equipment increases capacity elevates safety standards and enhances earthquake resilience—a crucial factor given the seismic activity in the Pacific Northwest.
The City of Seattle detailed the significance of these efforts, noting that the successful replacement of such a large transformer necessitates "contributions from a team of engineers to ensure a safe and reliable installation," as Electric Power Systems Engineer Hans Guttman remarked.
