A senior contracts coordinator at Seattle City Light, Cavazos has been greasing the wheels of progress since her start with the utility company in March 2023. According to a post on the Powerlines blog, she's playing a critical role in shaping the city's electrification and grid modernization efforts.
In her role, Cavazos works hand-in-glove with project managers to manage contracting for City Light's ambitious projects. Her purview extends to on-call contracts, a consortium of 22 consultants and vendors equipped to support the city's future-focused energy endeavors. "I coordinate contracting efforts for the Electrification and Strategic Technology Division for Electrification, Transportation, and Grid Modernization projects," Cavazos revealed to Powerlines. Her knack for identifying and bridging process gaps in the division has enhanced operations, underscoring her importance to the team's function and flowing.
Hailing from Pharr, Texas, and armed with a political science degree and a juris doctor from Washington State University and St. Mary’s University Law School respectively, Cavazos brings a rich mosaic of experiences to her Seattle role. Beyond the desk, she's a mother, pet owner, and self-styled artist—embracing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and its symphony of seasons that contrast vividly with her southern Texas roots.
Fueled by gratitude for her co-workers, Cavazos finds daily motivation in the “diverse and dedicated group of people” she works with. She calls them her work family, a sentiment that's reciprocated by those who benefit from her expertise and dedication.
Her favorite City Light project to date? Organizing a 2024 meet-and-greet for consultants involved in electrification and grid modernization, as "an opportunity to create space for people to come together face-to-face after the pandemic," she told Powerlines.
