Commuters on I-405 in Renton experienced significant delays Tuesday morning, following a semi-truck rollover crash that led to a fire and halted northbound traffic. As reported by FOX 13 Seattle, the incident occurred early in the day and officials recommended that drivers find alternate routes while the scene was being managed.
At the heart of the disruption, a semi-truck crashed and subsequently caught fire, resulting in plumes of smoke visible on traffic cameras, The Seattle Times detailed. Thankfully, the collision only led to minor injuries. "Tow trucks on the way but this will take a while to clean up," Johnson wrote, signaling the extensive efforts required to clear the interstate of the accident's aftermath.
While the main lanes of I-405 were blocked, traffic managed to creep by using the SR 169 on-and-off ramps and the HOV lane. KING 5 reported that law enforcement, fire crews, and an incident response team from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) quickly arrived on the scene to tackle the blaze and orchestrate traffic movement around the incident. Authorities asked drivers, if possible, to seek different paths to their destinations to ease the congestion.
While the truck driver's name and the cause of the accident have not been released, emergency services quickly responded, preventing a larger disaster. Within hours, police, fire crews, and WSDOT worked to restore traffic.
