Arizona Senator Mark Kelly criticized the Trump administration's economic strategy during a speech on the Senate floor. He mentioned the rising cost of essential goods, including eggs, which he said have reached record prices. Citing a local example, Kelly stated, "The Safeway down the road from my house in Tucson is charging $9.49 for a dozen eggs. I can’t remember ever seeing it that high," according to the Office of the Senator.
Senator Kelly criticized the Trump administration for cutting job-creating projects and reducing infrastructure investments while providing more tax benefits to the wealthiest Americans. He also pointed to the firing of key Department of Agriculture staff responsible for managing the bird flu outbreak, linking it to rising egg prices, as reported by the Office of the Senator.
During his floor speech, Kelly warned that targeting key incentives, especially in clean energy manufacturing, could lead to industries moving overseas to countries like China, resulting in job losses in the U.S. He said, "They’ve set their sights on the very incentives that are making this happen, especially when it comes to clean energy manufacturing." Kelly also emphasized the need for Congress to focus on issues affecting working families, stating, "We should be focused on the things that matter, lowering prices for people, and solving real problems. Helping rich people get richer? That’s not a real problem," as stated by the Office of the Senator.
