The Lake Drive Reconstruction Project in Shorewood starts this February and will be finished by fall 2025. The project will fully update the road, driveway approaches, curb ramps for accessibility, bike and pedestrian paths, and replace water mains and sewers. Traffic lights will also be improved. During construction, WIS 32 between Edgewood Avenue and Kensington Boulevard will be closed to through traffic, according to the Village of Shorewood.
Maintaining traffic flow and local access is crucial, hence one traffic lane will be preserved open for those residing in the area. Pedestrians are also to be accommodated, with continuous access on at least one side of the street throughout the duration of the project. As per the official announcement from the Village of Shorewood, Wisconsin, these measures are part of the plan to minimize disruption to the daily life of the community.
The necessary closures will require drivers to find alternate paths. For those used to taking Lincoln Memorial Drive, the suggested detour routes include Kenwood Boulevard, Oakland Avenue and Hampton Road to navigate around the closure. Similarly, motorists cruising on WIS 32 are advised to use North Avenue, Oakland Avenue, and Hampton Road to effectively circumvent the construction zone, as reported by the Village of Shorewood.
While the project may cause temporary inconveniences, it’s designed to improve roads and infrastructure for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. For updates on the Lake Drive Reconstruction Project, Shorewood officials encourage everyone to visit the Village of Shorewood's website.
