In a recent turn of events, Simi Valley has witnessed an unusual traffic collision involving a juvenile on an e-bike and a police squad car. On Friday, along the 2600 block of Tapo Canyon Rd, a group of juveniles was spotted racing e-bikes on the sidewalk. According to the Simi Valley Police Department, an officer tried to contact the group, but one youngster made a break for it, speeding toward Alamo St and Michael Clark Memorial Pkwy. This defiant chase escalated, with the teen running a red light and almost colliding with another officer's vehicle positioned at the intersection.
Racing ahead of any sense of caution, the teen attempted to zip across in front of the police cruiser. The officer, thinking fast on their feet, stopped the car promptly. "The officer quickly stopped to avoid contact," stated the SVPD in a news release. Yet, despite their best efforts, the e-bike met the rear push-bar bumper of the police vehicle in an abrupt halt. Fortunately, the juvenile was spared from grave harm, suffering only non-life-threatening injuries, and was treated on-site by paramedics. The California Highway Patrol took over to conduct the traffic collision investigation.
As the authorities have noted, the applicable laws can be found within Chapter 1 of Division 11 of the California Vehicle Code, commencing with Section 21200.
