Roman and Williams, the design firm behind La Mercerie in Soho, is set to open a new fine-dining restaurant in collaboration with Sotheby’s. The restaurant will be located in the iconic Breuer Building at 945 Madison Avenue, recently acquired by Sotheby’s as its headquarters for $100 million.

According to ARTnews, La Mercerie, which opened in 2018 and earned a spot on the New York Times Best 100 Restaurants list in 2023, will bring its expertise to the new restaurant, taking over the space that previously housed Flora Bar.

Chef Marie Aude-Rose, known for her work at La Mercerie, is expected to play a key role in the new venture, as mentioned by Eater. Vanity Fair reported that Aude-Rose will bring the same Parisian flair to this restaurant.

Roman and Williams has partnered with the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron, known for their work on landmarks like the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing, to renovate the Breuer building. Sotheby’s aims to blend its auction house legacy with art and luxury, a trend reflected by Hauser & Wirth, who opened Manuela, their first restaurant in New York City in 2024, as reported by ARTnews.

Though details about the restaurant remain limited, the grand opening is expected this fall when Sotheby’s opens its new headquarters in the Breuer building. A representative for Roman and Williams confirmed the collaboration but provided no further details.
