The community of South Los Angeles is grappling with the grim reality of two deadly shootings that occurred on the same block, nearly a day apart. ABC7 reports the most recent shooting transpired just before 10 p.m. Monday on West 87th Street in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood, where an adult woman succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital, and an adult man was shot in the foot, his condition is stable.
While authorities await more details, a suspect described as a male fled the scene. The shooting occurred in front of a small memorial for Sunday's shooting victim, but no arrests have been made in either case and the victims remain unnamed. CBS Los Angeles adds that the woman who died Monday night might have been attending a vigil for the man killed in the Sunday night incident, which happened around 8 p.m. on the same block.
In response to the shootings, homicide detectives are piecing together the grim puzzle, seeking witnesses who might shed light on both events and the escaped suspect, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau has opened lines for tips at (323) 890-5500 as they work to determine if there's a tangible thread linking the bloodshed.
Authorities remain tight-lipped about the specifics that led to the echoes of gunfire on West 87th Street.
