An 8-year-old girl was hit by a car on Concourse Drive in Southwest Houston on Monday afternoon at around 3:45 p.m. She had just gotten off her school bus from Alief Independent School District. Houston Police Department Lt. Va’Shawnda McLean said the girl "darted out into the road," according to Click2Houston.

Click2Houston's Bryce Newberry reported that the scene was somber, with a child’s backpack left on the ground during a police investigation. Residents from nearby apartments, including families and children, witnessed the aftermath. A black SUV, driven by an individual who cooperated with law enforcement, was unable to stop in time and collided with a child. ABC13 added that surveillance footage showed the child, waiting at a gate with a friend, ran into the street after the bus left, leading to the collision.

A girl was struck by an SUV in Alief ISD and was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Authorities are working with the school district to gather more information. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, cooperated with the investigation, and showed no signs of intoxication, as stated by ABC13.
