Yamilet Ravelo Ramentol, a 48-year-old caretaker from southwest Miami-Dade, was arrested in connection with a home invasion robbery targeting an elderly couple she cared for, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Deputies claim Ramentol orchestrated the robbery on January 2, 2024, at an apartment on the 17000 block of Southwest 104th Street, where approximately $10,000 was stolen from a travel bag in a dresser drawer, as reported by Local 10.
Ramentol faces charges including home invasion robbery without a weapon, conspiracy to commit home invasion robbery, and burglary with assault or battery. The victim, a 75-year-old woman, recounted that two masked men broke into her bedroom, restrained her, and ransacked her belongings. She later told Local 10, "This was a nightmare. I have a bruise. Everything is broken."
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office gathered evidence using surveillance footage, cellphone records, and a burner phone traced to Ramentol before and after the robbery. NBC Miami further reports that Ramentol had worked with the family for many years. The victim described her experience, saying, "He broke it, the door to my room was locked. He broke the door of my room. I was sitting on my chair, one guy put his hands here, I could not move. I want to move. The other one put something on my face. I cannot see nothing. Put something on the face. Black thing, I no see nothing. The other guy destroyed my room and take my money."
Authorities are still searching for the two male suspects involved in the robbery, while Ramentol is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Jail records do not show an attorney for her, and her statement to authorities has been redacted in public reports. Despite the incident, the victim continued employing Ramentol for over a year, but her arrest has ended that relationship. Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is encouraging anyone with information to call 305-471-8477.
