In a concerted law enforcement effort, Paul Bryan Zegarra, a 41-year-old Spicewood resident, was arrested and charged with a string of over forty graffiti offenses. Officials from Lakeway, Texas, confirmed that these crimes involve the painting of swastikas and other hate symbols, according to a CBS Austin report. Zegarra's spree of defacement, comprising damage to buildings, vehicles, and various structures, began in March of 2024 and spread across the Lake Travis area.
Described in an extensive investigation carried out by local authorities, Zegarra was identified after meticulous evidence collection by the Lakeway and Bee Cave Police, working alongside the Travis County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI’s Austin Field Office. Having painted hateful symbols across town, Zegarra was taken into custody on February 3. Following his arrest, the City of Sunrise Beach website announced the arrest as marking a critical step in combatting local vandalism and hate crimes.
"Lakeway and Bee Cave Police worked closely with other law enforcement partners to collect evidence and identify Zegarra as the person responsible for these acts. Lakeway and Bee Cave police would like to thank the Travis County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Austin Field Office) for their assistance in this case," the City of Lakeway stated in a press release quoted by CBS Austin. Efforts were supported by multiple agencies to bring the suspect to justice.
