Authorities in St. Johns County are turning to the public in hopes of identifying an individual caught on surveillance footage. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office (SJSO) released images from an investigation into an incident that took place last Monday, at the Hampton Inn, located at 2525 CR 208. The call for assistance was shared on St. Johns County Sheriff's Office social media, inviting anyone with information to step forward.
In what is described as an active investigation, the SJSO Special Victims Unit detectives have chosen not to disclose specific details about the incident during the preliminary stage of their work. The sheriff's office has asked those who might recognize the subject or possess any relevant information to contact them directly at their non-emergency number, 904-824-8304, or via email at [email protected]. Tipsters also have the option to remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477, and are reminded to call 911 in an emergency situation.
The image circulating online shows a still frame of a person of interest, whose identity could potentially aid in shedding light on the case at hand. Such appeals to the public are a common strategy employed by law enforcement when leads run thin or when the community's assistance could expedite the resolution of a case. The familiarity with the surroundings or individuals within can sometimes break a case wide open.
