In response to the chilling forecast this week, residents in need can find some warmth at a temporary heating bus station provided by the City of St. Louis Government in collaboration with Metro. The city has announced the availability of this emergency heating bus at the corner of 14th and Chestnut streets, offering a temporary respite for those facing homelessness during dangerously cold weather.
According to a social media post by the City of St. Louis Government, the bus will serve as the initial meeting spot "for people who are unhoused to go to in order to be placed in one of the shelters around the city." Operations run Monday through Friday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for this week as the city braves the frigid climate.
Officials from the City express their gratitude to Metro for stepping in during the crisis, as well as to city staff, community partners, shelter operators, and volunteers, all essential in ensuring vulnerable populations have a safe haven from the bitter cold. "The City is grateful for the staff, community partners, shelter operators and volunteer outreach groups who work to ensure that people can find shelter on the coldest nights.," reads the announcement. "Thank you to Metro for making this bus available."
