A tragic accident in St. Petersburg has claimed the life of a pedestrian. Last Friday night, around 9:45 p.m., Tevin Griffin was struck by a vehicle while crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South. According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, Griffin was crossing in an unmarked crosswalk at the time of the incident.
Kimberly Barham, the driver of a silver Land Rover SUV, was identified as the individual behind the wheel when the crash occurred. In what has now been reported as a hit-and-run, Barham subsequently failed to stop and render aid, choosing instead to quickly leave the scene. Griffin suffered severe injuries and was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Authorities located Barham at her home about an hour after the crash took place. She was arrested and is facing charges for DUI Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death.
The investigation is ongoing, and the St. Petersburg Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward. This incident serves as another stark reminder of the responsibilities shared by all road users to ensure safety.
