The Grand Central District of St. Petersburg hosted its inaugural Winter Pride celebration, marking a new seasonal event for the LGBTQ community and allies. The festivities took place in the district, recognized as a top LGBTQ destination, according to FOX 13 News. The event aimed to promote inclusion and unity within the area.

Recent executive orders from President Donald Trump have raised concerns within the transgender community. St. Pete resident Meg Desomery expressed her fears, stating, "I think to not be scared is to be naive. I don't want to be dramatic about it, but I think it is a scary time watching rights and things being taken from things that have been in place for a long time." In response, St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch reaffirmed the city's commitment to inclusivity, saying, "When we say, 'We are St. Pete,' that means everybody — including members of the LGBTQ+ community, and that will not change for the City of St. Petersburg." The city continues to support the LGBTQ+ community through local events and healthcare resources, as stated by WTSP.

Winter Pride in St. Petersburg aims to make the city a year-round LGBTQ+ destination. Rob Hall, Executive Director of Winter Pride, stated, "Everybody is welcomed," and clarified that the event complements, rather than replaces, the traditional summer pride. Christian Arnold, Executive Director of the Grand Central District, praised the event's quick and efficient organization. Hall also emphasized, "We are louder, prouder, and stronger than we’ve ever been, now we need everybody’s support." Most Winter Pride events are free and open to the public, inviting everyone to join in the week-long celebration, as reported by ABC Action News.
