Florida shoppers can buy firearms, ammunition, bows and camping gear tax-free through the end of the year, under a Second Amendment sales tax holiday. The exemption, running from September 1 through December 31, 2026, waives the state's 6% sales tax.
DeSantis highlighted the tax break in a post on X, writing that “Florida's per-capita tax burden is one of the lowest in the nation” and pointing to the ongoing holiday as further relief for residents, according to Ron DeSantis
. Combined with last year's inaugural program, the holiday is now in its second year.
What's Tax-Free This Year
The list of eligible purchases is broad: pistols, rifles and shotguns; firearm accessories like holsters, grips, sights, stocks and cleaning kits; bows, crossbows and their accessories; fishing rods, reels, bait and tackle; and camping gear including tents, sleeping bags, stoves and lanterns. Florida exempts individual bait-and-tackle items up to $10 and multi-item purchases up to $20.
The 2026 program includes magazines, range bags, barrels, triggers, slings and bipods. It also includes suppressors, according to NRA-ILA. The exemption list covers a broad range of gear for hunters and shooters.
At 122 days, Florida's holiday is longer than Louisiana's three-day holiday. Hoodline previously reported on Louisiana's own gun tax holiday, which followed a much narrower format.
Breaking Ground In Lakeland
Tenoroc Public Use Area has rifle and handgun ranges, sporting clays, 5-stand and trap facilities. The site gives Floridians more opportunities to use shooting facilities safely.
Tenoroc itself has an unusual history. The more than 7,300-acre site includes 6,065 acres of reclaimed phosphate mining land donated to the state by Borden, Inc. in 1982, along with later additions and acquisitions, and has been managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission since 1992, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Its former mining pits were converted into 29 managed lakes that the state credits with unusually strong largemouth bass growth rates tied to residual phosphate in the soil, per Visit Central Florida.
