Stone Mountain High School faced a lockdown scenario yesterday, after administrators were tipped off about a weapon on its grounds. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, officials quickly acted on the information, conducting a thorough search and securing the weapon without injuries or threats being reported. The swift response ensured the safety of everyone present during the ordeal.
Following standard procedure, the DeKalb County School District Police expanded their sweep to check for additional contraband, the extended search came up empty. Details about the student believed to be responsible for bringing the weapon on campus, including their name and age, remain undisclosed at this time. Similarly, the type of weapon found has not been specified in official communications.
In a measure to calm concerns and provide transparency, Stone Mountain High School Principal Michael Costa addressed parents with a letter. "I applaud the response and professionalism of our administration, staff, campus supervisors, and DCSD Police in addressing the situation quickly and safely," Costa stated, a sentiment he expressed in the letter obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
While maintaining confidentiality on specific disciplinary actions, Costa reassured parents, "While I cannot discuss individual student disciplinary outcomes, I can let you know that all consequences will be guided by applicable Georgia laws and DCSD’s 2024-25 Code of Student Conduct. This ensures that the incident is handled fairly and thoroughly for anyone found to be involved,” as noted by Atlanta News First.
