Oahu's weather forecast just dropped, and looks like we're in for a pretty sweet week with plenty of sun and a side of light showers if you're up on the windward side. The National Weather Service in Honolulu reports we're getting a dry breeze from the north flipping over to our usual trades later today, something that'll keep things feeling fresh out here until at least the weekend.
The cool down comes off the back of one of those typical Pacific storms, and now that it's out of the way, we're sliding into a stretch of weather that's making beach plans look pretty good, especially with the trades keeping us from reaching for the A/C remote. But, look out come Tuesday, there's a slim chance for a smidge more rain that's riding in on a weak trough from way up north, don't bet the house on needing an umbrella—most of us will barely notice a few drops.
Aviation-wise, pilots and passengers can relax as the skies are clear, with no AIRMETs in effect and none expected today, according to the NWS. Northerly winds are set to shift northeast, but there’s no cause for concern in the control tower, as the winds are forecast to be "gentle to moderate."
Boaters, you might want to tighten those knots as northerly puffs turning northeast could give sails a bit more action, but nothing that screams 'batten down the hatches'—it's sitting just under Small Craft Advisory level, at least through the middle of the week. Surfing looks promising, in particular for the north shore; a medium-sized swell is rolling in and might just peak enough for an advisory, so keep those boards waxed and those eyes on the waves, cause it's time to catch 'em while you can.
No one's waving any red flags in the HFO's latest release, which pretty much means we're set for a regular island-style February week, just how we like it. So, whether you're hitting the tarmac, sailing the channels, or just lounging on the sand, remember the sunscreen and maybe, just maybe, a light jacket for the evenings. Aloha!
