
The Metropolitan Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a shooting that occurred in the Northeast quadrant of the city. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, officers were called to the 700 block of 19th Street, Northeast, following reports of gunfire. There, they discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, as reported on the MPD's official website.
After a thorough investigation by detectives, 24-year-old Leon Jones Jr. of Northeast, DC, was apprehended yesterday. A firearm was also recovered during his arrest. Jones is facing a slew of charges, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Discharge Of A Firearm, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. Additionally, he is charged with being in possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device and four counts of Destruction Of Property.
Further investigation linked Jones to two other incidents in the same area, one being Endangerment with a Firearm on Saturday, December 7, 2024, and another Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm that took place on Saturday, January 11, 2025. These two offenses add to the gravity of the situation Jones is implicated in.
While an arrest has been made, the MPD stresses that the December 8 shooting is still under active investigation. The department encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward. Notably, there is a reward of up to $10,000 offered by the MPD, which will be granted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this or other violent crimes in the District of Columbia.
