Tacoma residents might need to dig out their winter gear once again as the city prepares for another bout of cold weather. According to the City of Tacoma's official website, freezing temperatures paired with potential snow showers are on the horizon, starting Thursday, February 13 through Friday, February 14. Street Operations crews have taken the initiative to deice roads citywide in anticipation of the forecasted weather, which remains shrouded in uncertainty.
While Thursday is expected to see a rain/snow mix along with warmer temperatures, Friday's early hours may be less forgiving. Having deiced the city already, Tacoma's Street Operations teams are positioning themselves to combat the whims of nature. "Overnight and early Friday morning are anticipated to also include a rain/snow mix and the possibilities of freezing temperatures," warned the City's announcement. The first wave of readiness will see three deicing trucks deployed at midnight on Friday to tackle any surprise road conditions or isolated snowfalls, which is predicted to be less than ½ inch.
The preparation doesn't halt there. The City of Tacoma's contingency plans involve additional snow equipment on standby, ready to spring into action as needed. This preemptive approach is reflective of a city that has become familiar with the unpredictable nature of its winter weather patterns. According to the City of Tacoma, these measures are to ensure the safety and mobility of its residents amidst the potential wintry mix.
Tacoma's Street Operations crews' sense of responsibility towards their residents cannot be overstated in the face of impending winter weather. "Additional snow equipment is readily available as needed," the City reassured, highlighting the commitment to keeping the streets clear and residents safe. As the city braces for the winter's embrace, locals are encouraged to stay informed and prepare for the likelihood of a chilly Valentine's Day.
