A Takoma Park police captain sustained serious injuries during a collision on Monday evening when an impaired driver crashed into his cruiser, Montgomery County authorities reported. The incident, which occurred around 7:25 p.m. at Piney Branch Road and Park Valley Road, drew responses from Montgomery County Police Department's 3rd District officers and county fire rescue teams.
The preliminary investigation by the authorities has shed light upon the circumstances leading to the accident. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the police captain was navigating his cruiser through the area when he was struck by an adult female driver, who was later determined to be impaired.
The captain, whose name has yet to be released, was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, intensifying concerns about the dangers of impaired driving. The driver responsible for the collision has sustained minor injuries and, in the aftermath of the accident, faces charges related to driving under the influence (DUI) and other traffic-related offenses.
