Chaos ensued on Chicago's South Side Thursday night as gun violence once again infiltrated the city's public transport system. A 13-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man were shot on a CTA Red Line train near the 35th Street Sox station, interrupting the evening commute with a stark reminder of the city's ongoing struggle against shootings. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that police arrived around 9:50 p.m. at the 100 block of West 35th Street upon receiving notice of the incident.
The younger victim was promptly taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition, having suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. In conjunction with efforts to rapidly secure the crime scene, the man received treatment for his arm injury directly on the premises, as per officials. In the frenzy that followed, Red Line services were suspended between the Roosevelt and 63rd Street stops to accommodate police activity, forcing the city to arrange an alternative – shuttle buses for disrupted commuters, according to CBS News Chicago.
No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
