A 17-year-old Brooklyn girl, identified as Deaza Barkey, was fatally shot in the head at a home in Queens yesterday. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Clover Place in Holliswood, as reported by ABC7NY. Barkey was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

In connection with the deadly incident, a 16-year-old boy is being questioned, although no arrests have been confirmed. Police officers descended on the scene following the shooting, investigating the neighborhood. As conveyed by PIX11 News, Karen Odaira, a local resident, expressed her disbelief: "I am really shocked to find that out because, especially in this area, in this part of the neighborhood, we haven’t had any uptick in crime."

The Holliswood neighborhood is now reeling from the unexpected tragedy. Jonathan Lalljee, living near the scene, expressed the somber mood to PIX11 News, stating, "I feel very sad because no one deserves to get shot in the head, especially not someone so young."

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation into Barkey's death is active and NYPD officials have yet to release further details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
